Blog Hop: Banned Books Week

Welcome to my stop along the Banned Books Week Hop, Hosted by I Am Reader Not Writer and I Read Banned Books. You can read all about banned and challenged books on the ALA website here.

I chose to participate in this hop because I do not believe that anyone has the right to tell me what I can and cannot read. I have always had a little rebellious streak, so the idea of reading something that I should not read has appeal. Some of my favorite books are books that are frequently challenged or banned by schools.

So what can you win from me?

Option #1: Choice of one of my favorite banned books
Catcher in the Rye
The Giver
To Kill a Mockingbird

Option #2: Any book of your choice (up to $10) that has been banned or challenged. I will be purchasing this from amazon.com.

Entering is easy. Just tell me if you read banned books and why or why not. I will be randomly selecting a winner at the end of the hop, so make sure you include your e-mail address so I can contact you. No extra entries. US only please. The hop ends October 1 at midnight (EST).

Make sure you visit the other stops along the hop. Happy hopping and happy reading.

This linky list is now closed.

  4. Banning books is so wrong. It seems like it would be easier to just stop reading a book that you have an issue with. Why try to ruin reading for everyone else. Reading is a freedom I take seriously so heck yeah I'll read a banned book every chance I get.

  5. Love banned books! Helps you to keep an open mind I think. I loved 1984, To Catch a Mockingbird, & the Hunger Games. Would love to win Catcher in the Rye.

  11. I love reading anything! Especially banned books. F.451 and to Kill A Mockingbird are two of my favorites. The town I live in is pretty open when it comes to reading materials, except for Uncle Tom's Cabin (but that is still a good one). Love the giveaway!

  12. Yes, I read banned books. I have really been suprised at some that are on the lists. I do not understand the reasoning behind alot of the banning!!

  13. Like many people, I read most of the books on the most challenged books list before ever knowing anything about banned or challenged books. I read books like Go Ask Alice, To Kill a Mockingbird, and A Prayer for Owen Meany when I was a teenager and apparently I've passed that natural love of banned/challenged books on to my own son as he is currently in the middle of reading his 4th Harry Potter book, he is 10. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  21. I read what I read. I don't pay attention to if it's been banned. If I were to know that before hand, I would just want to read it more. I don't believe in restriction of media from the public. Restriction pertaining to age and maturity is another thing.

  60. I read all kinds of books, and that includes banned books. I read them because, most of the time, its teaches us things that are happening everyday. It teaches you to not make the same mistakes in life because you only have one life. So enjoy it, but don't do things that you will regret it.

I read whichever books I'm interested in -- banned or not. I don't deliberately seek out or avoid banned books. I will admit that the banned/challenged/controversial label peaks my curiosity. The same logic applies to movies, TV shows, and music.
